Split Times
Split times were measured from when ALL the complete grips
were on the canopy before you, until ALL the completed grips
were taken on your canopy. Out of 377 docks viewed (each dock was
reviewed 5 times) only two bad catching situations were noted. So
the catcher(s) were not the problem at this event. Each complete
diamond interval was measured, then individual split times were
measured. The figures were crossed check (added up for the wing
groups) to see if they matched the diamond split interval – it was
usually only off by 1 or 2 seconds. The missing time was corrected
by adjusting the time of the wing flyers to make the match.
Perceived long split times were usually the flyers problem
initially. Typically the incoming person did not stop their momentum
on all three axis, and they would have trouble getting the
second grip in. There are many reasons why a dock may or may not
have taken as long. For example the person in front of the docker
had a problem causing the docker to reset; the formation was
pumping/moving; the angle of the sun made it difficult to see the
slot; etc... While all of these might be valid reasons for long
split times, the fact is that it took "X" seconds to complete the
dock in that slot. This is what is reported on the data presented on
this site. But on the other hand many people benefited from the
person in front having a bad dock, usually the problem was getting
the second grip in. The person below was rewarded for sticking their
parachute in there and not bailing out; when the dock above was
finished they had a 3 or 4 second split but in reality it should
have been more like a 10 second split. Even with only the 5 dives
evaluated it all "washes out" - sometimes you benefit, some you were
penalized.
Color Grading of slots:.
Green = 10 sec or Less
Yellow = 11 to 15 sec w/ good dock (No
momentum)
Red = Greater than 15 sec or very poor
dock (hard dock)

Criteria
|
Base-pin |
30 seconds (Due to split-removable
slider / Altitude / Parachute size). |
|
#3
|
15 seconds after pin docks. (Due to
split slider / Altitude / parachute size) |
|
#4
|
15 seconds after #3 docks. (Due to split
slider / Altitude / parachute size) |
|
Row 3 wings (#5 & #6)
|
15 seconds (5 second stabilize hold after #4
docks, then 10 seconds to make dock). |
|
Row 3 lockups (#7 & #8)
|
10 seconds after wing docks. |
|
#9
|
10 seconds after last dock. |
|
Wings
|
20 seconds (10 second stabilize hold after
prior point docks, then 10 seconds to make dock). |
|
Lockups
|
10 seconds after wing docks. |
|
Points
|
10 seconds after last lockup is in. |
|
Plugging a slot |
1. Plugging: 15 seconds
after missed dock; plus 3 seconds for each additional slot
movement up.
2. Plugging wing slot from wing lockup position: 25 seconds
after missed dock.
3. Moving up one wing echelon: 30 seconds (Example: #12 plugs
for #9)
4. Moving up one slot because of a plug in wing echelon: 3
additional seconds (Example: #14 moves into #12 position). |
Note: Split time starts/stops “when the dock
above has all the feet in the proper lines” (with some minor
exceptions - i.e.: a small improper grip)
